About the artwork

Several Circles - 1926

A geometric universe held in one square canvas

Several Circles, also known by its German title Einige Kreise, is a 1926 oil painting by Wassily Kandinsky from his Bauhaus-period abstraction.

The composition is built around overlapping circles, color relationships, and the tension between transparent and solid forms.

Kandinsky made the painting in January and February 1926 while developing a more geometric visual language.

The work belongs to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Founding Collection and is held by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
